Historical Performance for String Players

A 5-week (non-consecutive) course (4 x 1.5hrs, plus 1 x 2hrs) with Internationally renowned baroque violinist Claire Duff, exploring the historical performance of baroque music. (Please see actual course dates in description below)

Description

Internationally renowned as a baroque violinist, Claire Duff is in demand as soloist, chamber musician, leader, director and teacher. Claire is passionate about teaching historically-aware performance.

As part of this 5 week deep dive into historical performance for strings Claire explores the approach to the performance of baroque music, and the manner and style of the musical era in which works were originally conceived.

Through performance and analysis of repertoire from the time, Claire will lead participants on an investigation of the stylistic and technical aspects of performance. The course will consider period instruments which were in use at the time of the original composition, and which usually have different timbre and temperament from their modern equivalents

A must-do course for string players looking to improve their general skills in performance, or wishing to learn more about historical playing through an interactive and performance course
