Brave the Stave - Sight Reading for Well Sing Choir Members

Introduction to Sight Reading Choral Music

Description

Brave the Stave – Sight Reading for Well Sing Choir Members is a special course exclusively for Well Sing Choir members

This course offers participants to improve their sight-reading skills of noted music and choral scores.

Together with your WSC peers, explore stave notation, basic rhythm patterns and learn to:

  • Identify time signatures
  • Identify the beat of a piece of music
  • Clap noted music rhythms using rhythm syllables
  • Sing noted music melodies

Your course tutor Brian will introduce you to the concept of Tonic Solfa, and its uses in sight-singing.

By linking your classwork to your current Well Sing Choir repertoire this course will complete the circle and support your ease of learning new material.

Brian will be able to adapt the course pace based on the overall group progress, but the course will start at an introductory level.

For more advanced singers with previous experience in score reading and sight singing, we are planning to schedule a regular, more intensive Sight Singing Bootcamp course later in 2024.

“Brave the Stave” will comprise 5 x 1-hour sessions, scheduled on selected Wednesdays after your regular Well Sing Choir rehearsals.

Allowing for a short lunch break after your Wednesday rehearsals, your Sight Reading course will start at 2:15 PM for another hour of singing and learning together with your WSC peers.

The course will start on the 31st of January, after your third WSC rehearsal, and will run on the below dates.

Course dates:

Wednesday 31st January - Session 1
Wednesday 7th February - Session 2
Wednesday 28th February - Session 3
Wednesday 13th March - Session 4
Wednesday 20th March - Session 5
