Description
This course is the perfect starting point for professional and aspiring musicians seeking to gain fundamental skills in various key areas of Sound Recording and Music Production.
In this practise-oriented course, participants will be studying hands-on in the newly remodelled RIAM music technology lab and studio.
Course Content:
Over the 6-week course duration you will learn how to:
- Use a Digital Audio Workstation to record and produce musical material
- Set up a microphone, distinguish between microphone types and use an audio interface
- Work with a MIDI keyboard to add software instruments to musical arrangements
- Apply audio effects to your recordings
- Edit and mix recordings to produce a polished finished project
- Render finished recordings for distribution on streaming services and YouTube

Conor Kinsella:
Conor Kinsella is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer from Co. Dublin and an avid lover of everything and anything related to music and audio production. He has been writing, producing and performing music for many years and is dedicated to improving his craft and practice with every project he works on. Conor's formal music training is in classical piano but he has extensive experience performing in a number of other genres, including singing and playing guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. Conor holds his master's degree in Music and Media Technologies from Trinity College Dublin as well as his undergraduate degree in Music and English Literature.
Conor has been an assistant lecturer in Music Technology in the Royal Irish Academy of Music since 2023 and has delivered modules and seminars across both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He is also teaching assistant on the M. Phil in Music and Media Technologies course in Trinity College Dublin.
Conor has been tutoring in music production since the COVID-19 pandemic, where he was awarded a Dean's award from Trinity College Dublin for his work in delivering remote music production workshops for students. He performs regularly with his rock band SPEAKERS of which he is the lead singer, guitarist and producer. Conor has received Arts Council funding for his musical practice and has had his music featured in national press including Hot Press, Golden Plec and RTE.
