Classical Singing (Repertoire) Coaching Classes (Interm./Adv. Level)
Group Coaching for classical singers (intermediate and advanced level) who aim to build and enhance their presentation skills of Classical Singing repertoire for auditions and live performances.
Description
In this, limited-participation course, participants (intermediate and advanced level singers) will work with their tutor, Meté Tasin, to enhance their presentation skills of Classical Voice repertoire, recitatives & arias, lieder etc. for performance or audition purposes.
Together with Meté participants will explore building a solid all-body consciousness, aligning body posture, voice, diction, facial expressions and gestures to convey the emotional content of sung literature.
Two terms á 10 sessions (90 minutes each), focussing on:
Recitatives:
- Learning the recitative(s) (musically/text)
- Pronunciation and flow of spoken/sung text
- Acting out the recitative(s)
Arias:
- Learning of the aria(s) (musically/text)
- Pronunciation and flow of spoken/sung text
- Interpreting and communicating the aria content (text) to the audience
- Acting out the aria(s)
Lieder:
- Learning the lieder (musically/text)
- Pronunciation and flow of spoken/sung text
- Interpreting and communicating the lieder content (text) to the audience
Subject to participants' preferences and where appropriate this could include working on duets or trios.
Course structure
The course (in a group setting) is running as a two-term course throughout the Academic Year 2023/24, due to its developmental structure. By registering for this course, participants commit to two terms of 10 sessions each and the associated fees.
The scheduling of sessions will be through direct liaison between Meté and course participants. Where appropriate, partial delivery of the course in 1:1 settings (pro-rata) may be considered, but is at the discretion of the tutor.
Payment
The course fee of €830 per registrant (e.g. 2 x €415 for the year) can be paid in two instalments (50% due at registration, with the balance due by the end of November 2024).
This course is subject to a minimum number of three participants to be able to run.
Learning Outcomes
- Thorough preparation of (new) recitatives and arias for performance or audition purposes
- Perfecting your diction and pronunciation of common opera/oratorio literature.
- Develop and deepen a solid all-body consciousness.
- Learn to align body posture, voice, diction, facial expressions and gestures for an overall rounded performance.
- Improve your connection with the audience by involving them in your performance reflecting your own emotional experience of the music.
Prerequisites
Age: 18+
This course is intended for intermediate and advanced-level singers only.
Tutors
Meté Tasin is an Internationally Known Performer whose repertoire spans Opera, Classics, Theater, Pop, and Standards (Italian and American).
Meté Tasin was born in Würzburg, Germany and raised in Turkey. His professional career began in the USA, with roles in productions of Carmen (Don Jose) and Lucia di Lammermoor (Arturo). Since then, Meté has been in many leading roles in Turkey, Europe, and most recently, the United States including the lead role of Arlecchino in Pagliacci by Leoncavallo and Gastone in Verdi's La Traviata at the Opera San Jose in California. He has also represented the San Francisco City Opera by singing at Union Street and North Beach Festivals as a soloist. Recently he performed with the Aurora Mandolin Orchestra in San Francisco, and as a soloist at the renowned "Palau de la Musica" in Barcelona.
Multi-lingual, multi-instrumentalist, multi-talented, Meté Tasin has collaborated with well-known conductors and coaches such as William Hicks, Joan Dornemann, Deborah Birnbaum, John Yaffe, Gaetano Colajanni, Pier Calmelet, Ibrahim Yazici, Serdar Yalcin, Gokcen Koray, Rengim Gokmen, Koji Kawamoto, Cesar Ulloa, Sheri Greenawald, Ricardo Estrada, Carmen Bustamante, Roberto Accurso, Mark Nicolson, Giacomo Aragall and Montserrat Caballé.
