Wind Quintet Coaching Classes (Adv. Level)

Description

The Wind Quintet – Chamber Music coaching classes are intended for continuing learners with advanced wind instrument performance skills from Grade 7+. 

These classes are suitable for former Junior RIAM students, or musicians new to the RIAM community, with a min. Grade 7+ in a standard wind quintet instrument (e.g. Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon and French Horn).

          

The emphasis in this course will be on developing ensemble skills and good communication with each other and your audience, to support high-quality performances, both entertaining and educational.

In addition to the 12 hours of group activities, participants will receive an hour of designated 1:1 time with the tutor (to be scheduled individually).

And finally,

Upon completion of the 12 classes you will have the opportunity to present your newly acquired skills and techniques in an end-of-course concert-style performance for peers, invited friends and family, showcasing the outcome of your journey with Paul Roe and your fellow quintet members.

 

There are no mandatory exams or assessments as part of the Chamber Coaching classes. However, exams or assessments can be planned together with your tutor and prepared for during each running term.

RIAM does not provide instruments.

Prerequisites

Participants must be 18+

Advanced performance level (Grade 7+) in any wind quintet instrument.

Participation is subject to application process (as part of the registration).

Tutors

Professor Paul Roe  

Ph.D (York)  M.A.  F.T.C.L

A life defined by curiosity and exploration Dr. Paul Roe works in a range of areas with an eclectic mix of activities in performance, teaching, research and leadership/developmental coaching. Paul is Professor of Clarinet at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Lecturer at the Technical University of Dublin. He also works as an executive coach for the Department of Education's Centre for School Leadership; working with school principals and management teams in a range of contexts.

 

Paul is also the director of the innovative multidisciplinary collective - The Art of Collaboration which explores a diverse range of approaches to co-creativity; cultivating transformation through collaborative action. The most recent releases from this collective include a new CD entitled Just Be which has been described by the Irish Times as a sweeping yet intimate collection of new compositions and traditional tunes, with a meditative spoken work piece. This CD is paired with Prof. Jim Lucey’s new book…A Whole New Plan for Living.

 

As a collaborative artist and thought leader Paul is involved in many other projects with individuals and groups including Concorde, Evlana, Music Currents.
