An exploration of the connection between music and our mental health including some practical resources for reducing stress and anxiety.
Led by the RIAM's Senior Musical Therapist, Jessica Harris, this course emphasises and responds to the call to care for our mental wellbeing amidst the challenges we all face today including COVID-19 and its aftermath.
The course will take us on an exploration of the connection and impact of music on our mental health and how we can engage and reflect through music in our everyday lives to enhance our mental wellbeing. The course includes practical expressions of engaging through music and creativity to reduce stress and anxiety.
Jessica’s career began as a musician studying at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and she has performed with orchestras and ensembles such as the National Symphony and National Concert Orchestras of Ireland.
Her love for connecting with and supporting people of all ages and abilities led her to a Masters in Music Therapy. Since graduating from University of Limerick in 2010, Jessica has provided music therapy to clients across a wide range of populations and ages.
Jessica returned to the RIAM to co-ordinate, develop and deliver music therapy and has introduced music therapy services as an integral value towards wellbeing.
Her approach is person-centred and psychodynamic, supporting and meeting HIQUA standards. She is passionate and committed to providing opportunities for change, hope and joy.

This course was extremely well researched and fantastically presented by Jessica. I was both amazed and excited to see the role that music plays in humanity and in life itself.
