If you have ever had a question about teaching piano technique, style, phrasing, fingering or pedalling that would benefit from a one-to-one discussion with an expert you need to book a short consultation with Professor Réamonn Keary, co-presenter of the RIAM Key Skills. Questions do not have to relate to RIAM grade exams and no question is too basic!

Learning Outcomes

Piano teaching can sometimes be an isolated business that can leave teachers s without a peer or ‘sounding board’ to chat through how to progress a particular problem, student or technique, or even leads some teachers to question their ability and skills. These roadblocks or lack of self-confidence often requires just the support and a few helpful tips of an expert in the field. The RIAM hopes that having access to one of our most experienced teachers will be a valuable resource to piano teachers around the country.

Réamonn is highly regarded as a chamber musician and has performed and recorded with many of the country’s top instrumentalists. His most recent performances were with cellist Annette Cleary in August 2020 in the Mendelssohn Remise in Berlin and in October 2020 in the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin.

A highly successful piano teacher, he has taught many prize-winners of national and international competitions

He is closely associated with the RIAM’s Local Centre examination system, having served as the Chairman of the Senior Examiners for many years. He is also much in demand as an adjudicator and was a jury member of the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2006 and 2009.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as a student of Professor Reamonn Keary. He created a welcoming learning environment for me and valued my ideas and opinions. His love for music, learning and education inspired me, and his expectations greatly affected my goals and achievements. A truly wonderful teacher, and for those of us lucky enough to interact with him, the payoff is enormous." (A. McDonald)

"I enjoyed this very much, I had a list of queries to ask Raymond and every one were answered. He also gave me great tips on teaching and just down to earth chat. I would highly recommend booking this if it comes up again. Very informative. (J. Geary McCall)

"This was a wonderful opportunity to get some invaluable advice from Professor Keary. He was very down to earth and explained everything so well, all my questions were answered and I went away with a much better understanding. Highly recommend, and I'm so glad I had this opportunity. I hope it comes around again in the near future!" (E. Clarke)
